ACTNews, CENTRAL MALUKU – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Maluku and the Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) distributed 1.5 tons of rice to underprivileged families in Central Maluku, Friday (1/31). The humanitarian assistance reached 300 residents in Sapuri Hamlet, Oli Tengah Hamlet, and Oli Atas Hamlet in Hitu Village, Waipoot Hamlet in Wakal Village, Leihitu Subdistrict, Central Maluku Regency. The distribution of rice was one of the Friends of Indonesian Poor Families (SKPI) Program.

Ridwan, Head of Sapuri Hamlet, thanked ACT on behalf of the local residents. He said, most of the Sapuri residents work as farmers and construction workers. "For four months, the weather in Ambon has been so hot that their plants died and are unable to grow," Ridwan said. Therefore, Ridwan said, residents were very grateful for the food aid that came in this dry season.

"I, the Head of the Sapuri Hamlet, on behalf of Sapuri residents, thank ACT and the generous donors who have given free rice. May Allah reward it with more sustenance for ACT and the benefactors," he added.

Wian, a resident of Waipoot Hamlet, also expressed his gratitude. Wian admitted, currently, the farmers' land is suffering from drought. "We can’t cultivate our lands. We must take water from the village one kilometer away from the farms," Wian said.

They have to go through steep road just to get water for their plants. Wian added that this had happened for around seven months that they have to go back and forth to fetch water from the village to the farms. "We hope that there will be generous benefactors who deliver clean water to Waipoot Village," he hoped. []
