ACTNews, BENGKALIS — Another fire hit the Sayang Omak Orphanage in Simpang Padang Village, Bathin Solapan District, Bengkalis Regency, on Sunday (5/15/2022). The disaster was the second time the orphanage had experienced this after a similar incident in 2019.

Mariana, a caretaker of the Sayang Omak Orphanage explained that the fire occurred at 10 am. This incident took place when the children were doing their morning activities. The cause of the fire was suspected to be an electrical short circuit.

"We focused on evacuating the children. Alhamdulillah, all of them are safe. We could not save many things because the fire quickly spreads," said Mariana on Sunday (5/15/2022).

According to Aditya Perdana Putra of the Aksi Cepat Tanggap Duri team, 90 percent of the orphanage building was destroyed by fire. Only the front wall is left. Similarly, the belongings could not be saved.

"Quran copies, books, important documents, school supplies, clothing for orphanage children, and wardrobes were all destroyed. As many as 20 orphanage children have now been evacuated to the nearest resident's home," Tuesday (5/24/2022), Aditya said.

The Sayang Omak Orphanage is looking for help from benefactors to meet its daily needs. ACT Duri also worked to rebuild the orphanage for these abandoned children.

"Generous Friends can contribute through the Indonesia Dermawan page," Adit concluded.[]
