ACTNews, AMBON - In commemoration of World Food
Day which falls on Friday (10/16), Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Maluku gave away
free foodstuffs for the poor amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The food distribution
took place in Batu Merah and Rijali areas, Ambon City.
"On World Food Day, today
(Friday) we are distributing foodstuffs through the Food Alms Gathering Point
(LSP) for impoverished families in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic in
Maluku," said ACT Maluku Branch Manager Wahab Loilatu, Friday (10/16).
Wahab added that The Food Alms Gathering
Point was ACT Maluku's initiative to meet the food needs of the locals who have
been badly affected by the pandemic. Every week, many have benefitted from the
Food Alms Gathering Point.
Risnawati (29), a bread hawker who benefitted
from the Food Alms Gathering Point, was very happy about the food distribution
from the Food Alms Gathering Program. Since her income was cut down due to the
pandemic, she has been in dire need of assistance especially because her
husband has recently lost his job as a laborer at the port.
"My income has been decreased by IDR
80,000 to 100,000 a day. Such food assistance is very helpful for my family for
the next few days," said Risnawati.
Until now, the Food Alms Gathering Point
continues to serve the community by providing foodstuffs to the needy. Anyone
can contribute by placing the foodstuffs they want to share on the Food Alms Shelves.
"This program is part of the National
Movement for Food Alms Gathering whose aim is to invite the wider community to
help each other by providing food for our brothers and sisters affected by the
pandemic. Apart from foodstuffs, you can also donate cash to ACT Maluku. The
cash donations will later be used to buy the foodstuffs that we will distribute
through the Food Alms Gathering Point," concluded Wahab. []
