ACTNews, TANGERANG
REGENCY – Sri Untoro successfully completed his undergraduate studies last
year at the age of 64. However, this Civics teacher at one of the Vocational
High Schools in Legok District, Tangerang Regency, has a great enthusiasm for
education.
Sri's journey in
the field of education has not always been smooth. In the mid-'90s, he stopped
for five years and worked in a factory to make ends meet. "But because teaching
is my calling, I returned to teaching after quitting factory work," Sri
said on Tuesday (3/1/2022).
Even though he has
been teaching for decades, Sri is still an honorary teacher with a salary of
IDR400,000 a month. His salary is often disbursed in installments every three
months. The electricity in Sri's house comes from his neighbor's because, but
in the midst of these difficulties, Sri continues to teach and educate.
"My principle is that being a teacher is a provision for our journey in
the afterlife," said Sri.
Global Zakat-ACT
provided support to Sri through the Friends of Indonesian Teachers program.
Through this program, Sri received assistance in the form of food packages. It
is hoped that this assistance will encourage Sri's spirit in teaching. []
