ACTNews, SURABAYA - Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) and Global Wakaf have made various initiatives in 2020. In the year that was filled with surprises, including the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, various actions were made as a tangible manifestation of kindness, funded by the community’s waqf donations.

In the last week of 2020, for example, dozens of trucks loaded with foodstuffs such as rice and bottled drinking water were gathering in the front yard of Grahadi Building, Surabaya, Sunday (12/27/2020). The aid convoy was going to be officially dispatched by Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa to various cities in East Java. The rice and bottled water that were distributed are products of Global Wakaf – ACT, namely Waqf Rice and Waqf Drinking Water. The presence of food aid for the people of East Java was also born with the support of the East Java Provincial Government, represented by Khofifah.

"I really support the good programs from Global Wakaf - ACT. Hopefully, the dispatching of this aid convoy can fulfill the community’s needs for food, especially in the East Java region," said Khofifah.

In East Java, Global Wakaf-ACT recently initiated programs to strengthen food sovereignty. After inaugurating the Waqf Distribution Center in Jombang, which serves as the starting point for aid distribution in East Java, Global Wakaf-ACT also held a planting ceremony to open the Productive Rice Field Waqf Program which targets to runs 500 hectares of rice field on Saturday (12/26/2020). Besides involving the farming community in Jiyu Village, Kutorejo District, Mojokerto, Global Wakaf-ACT also involves agricultural experts by planting superior rice seedlings that can produce more yields.

"With superior seeds, proper cultivating methods and good climate, it can produce more yields. We hope that the food sovereignty that Global Waqf-ACT is working for can really be realized," said Hariyadi, who is the developer of this superior seed, Saturday (12/26/2020).

Entering 2021, more actions of kindness and support will continue to flow until the ideals of food sovereignty can actually be realized. Global Wakaf-ACT manages community waqf funds to maximize the great potential of productive waqf including in agriculture. []
