ACTNews, SOUTH KALIMANTAN – Floods submerged ten districts in Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency for five days. Reportedly, the flood survivors suffer from various diseases.

Muhammad Rizki from Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) South Kalimantan program team explains many survivors in evacuation tents have suffered from skin disease and acute respiratory infection. “Many people suffer from tinea pedis and itchy skin,” he said.

The supply of medicine in the evacuation tents is still limited. Survivors need medicines, vitamins, and hygiene kits to survive in the evacuation tents.

“Floods make it difficult for residents to meet their needs and carry out their activities," added Rizki, Thursday (12/2/2021).

The humanitarian aid from benefactors continues to arrive for flood survivors. Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia volunteers have started helping since the beginning of the flood.

"Currently, the flood survivors urgently need food, medical, and psychosocial assistance because the disaster has been going on for several days,” said Rizki.

Heavy rains that fell over the last few days triggered flooding in Hulu Sungai Tengah. Floods have submerged houses and public facilities such as schools and government offices. Floods have also spread to five other districts. Sahbirin Noor, the Governor of South Kalimantan, has declared his province to have a flood emergency response status.[]
