ACTNews, TANAH BAMBU – Heavy rain had been falling on Satui Subdistrict, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan until Saturday (6/21) morning. A number of houses were flooded. There have been no reported casualties.
ACT South Kalimantan Emergency Response Volunteer Indra Gunawan reported, the heavy rain that hit the area has caused the flood that inundated several areas.
"Among the affected areas are East Satui Village, Angkasa Sungai Danau region, and Bay of Lahung Sinar Bulan," Indra explained
Until Sunday (6/21) morning, he continued, the main access to East Satui Village has not able to be reached. People who need to leave the village must go through the Transmigrasi Haul Road. Some had to walk for as far as 2.5 kilometers just to buy food at the market.
The flood has severely affected the residents who live on the banks of Danau River who mostly live on wooden stilt-houses.
Responding to the flood in Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, ACT South Kalimantan Program Coordinator Retno Sulisetiyani explained, ACT South Kalimantan volunteers had been on the location since Sunday morning to evacuate the locals whose houses were inundated. "We will open a Humanitarian Command Post and a public kitchen to provide emergency needs of the evacuees," said Retno.
