ACTNews, SURABAYA – Eid Al-Adha day this year has passed. However, in a metropolitan city like Surabaya, there are still those who rarely slaughter and enjoy qurbani meat. They are none other than the residents of Seng Gayung Kebonsari Village in Surabaya who never slaughtered qurbani animals and distributed their meat until Global Qurban - ACT delivered qurbani animals to their village. For a few years, they only received qurbani meat from some residents from the surrounding Village.

The locals were very enthusiastic during the slaughtering and the processing of the meat on Monday (8/12). They were very excited in slaughtering the qurbani animals in their own village, processing the meat, and enjoying the dishes made from qurbani meat.

Their faces were full of joy during the festivity held in Seng Village, particularly when they ate rawon, which is one of the favourite dishes for most of Surabayan people. The children in the village were also very happy as they participated in the competitions to celebrate the independence day of Indonesia which was held on the same occasion.

“Thank you Global Qurban - ACT for making our dreams to contribute in slaughtering qurbani animals in our own village come true,” Sutarmi, one of the residents of Seng Village said on Monday (12/8).

There were several activities held during the Qurbani Thanksgiving, from slaughtering the qurbani animals, eating together, live mural painting, as well as some competitions to celebrate Indonesia’s independence day.

This Qurbani Thanksgiving held by Global Qurban – ACT East Java was supported by some partners including Jokopi, IWAPI, Students Executive Board (BEM) of Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), and Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia which held the competitions as well as the mural painting.

Wahyu Sulistianto Putro from Global Qurban-ACT East Java said that this cooperation during Eid Al-Adha day could bring happiness to the residents of Seng Gayung Kebonsari Village who are still suffering from poverty. “It also serves as a proof to the benefactors that their qurbani have been professionally delivered and managed,” said Wahyu

Hafis, from Jokopi admitted that he was impressed and pleased to participate in this festivity. “Hopefully there will be more collaborative events that provide benefits for many people,” he said. Reny Widya Lestari as the head of IWAPI Surabaya felt grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Global Qurban - ACT during the Eid Al-Adha this year through the Qurbani Thanksgiving. []
