Thousands of Gazans Receive Clean Water from Humanity Water Tank

Humanity Water Tank continues to go around Gaza City to provide free clean water services to support the Palestinian recovery process. In May, 1,700,000 liters of clean water were received by many families in Gaza.

ACTNews, GAZA –Aksi Cepat Tanggap's Mobile Water Tank has driven along the streets of Gaza City. Clean water assistance from the generous benefactors approached every Gazan family, Monday (5/31/2021).

"This water tank can provide 1,000 liters of water per day for each Palestinian family. They can use it for various things, from bathing, worshiping, to consumption," said Said Mukaffiy from ACT's Global Humanity Response team. Mukaffiy explained, the Humanity Water Tank can supply up to 1,700,000 liters of clean water within a month.

Gaza has experienced a severe water crisis. Before the Israeli aggression last May, the Gazans drank an average of 90 liters of water per day, 80 liters of which was polluted water. This is due to the city governance system designed by Israel to block the water from the higher ground down to Gaza City.

The geographical location allows clean water to flow through Gaza before going to Israeli cities. However, every day, the Gazans are forced to drink groundwater that tastes sour or water that contains high salt.

Conditions were further exacerbated by Israel's 11-day aggression last May. Quoted by Aljazeera, the United Nations said approximately 800,000 people in Gaza do not have regular access to clean piped water, as nearly 50 percent of the water network was damaged in the bombing.

Need more clean water assistance

Said Mukaffiy explained clean water assistance is an emergency need for the Gazans. For this reason, assistance continues to be sought. In addition to the Humanity Water Tank, clean water assistance is also provided through Waqf Wells which are built with a minimum depth of 50 meters and can supply up to 10 thousand liters of clean water per hour.

However, with the large population of Gaza, Mukaffiy did not deny that more Humanity Water Tank and a Waqf Well are needed to reach all Gazans. "At least we need three additional units of water tanks so that all Gazans can enjoy clean water services. Therefore, we need the help of generous benefactors so that we can meet the Gazans' clean water needs," said Mukaffiy.[]
