ACTNews, JAKARTA - Since the pandemic erupted, many MSMEs have been severely affected. To ensure that they can survive, Global Wakaf – ACT has come up with programs that aim to assist MSME owners throughout the country.

Since its launching in August, the Waqf for Micro Business Capital program has empowered more than 1,200 beneficiaries of various businesses throughout November. "Most of them are food producers who continue to stay afloat during the pandemic. There are more than 500 food producers that we reach in 23 provinces in Indonesia, "said Wahyu Nur Alim from the Global Wakaf - ACT team on Thursday (11/19).

Kunira was among the beneficiaries of the Waqf for Micro Business Capital program. She has been running her food stall for three years to support her family. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, her business has been severely affected.

"My income has also been reduced. I used to earn IDR 500,000 to 600,000. Now, it’s difficult to even make just IDR 300,000 from the capital of IDR 500,000,” she said.

Sadly, as her income is reduced, still there are many needs that she has to fulfill. One of which is the data plan for her children’s distant learning acticities. Of all her four children, two are still studying at school.

Sutaka (46), Kunira's husband, is a fisherman in North Jakarta. His income is uncertain as it depends on his catch. During the pandemic, there are fewer buyers who buy his catches. In addition, Sutaka has also been sick, and unable to work. The family now depends on Kunira fully.

She is happy about the capital assistance from Global Wakaf – ACT. With the capital assistance, she plans to buy the raw ingredients in large quantities. “It will be cheaper to buy them in large quantities,” she said.

As the program goes on, Wahyu invited more benefactors to support this program to further expand its benefits. “Especially to those who do have to maintain their business in these difficult times. You can channel your aid through Indonesia Dermawan website,” he concluded. []
