ACTNews, JAKARTA – The ongoing pandemic continues to deteriorate the Indonesian economy, including MSMEs. A survey by Bank Indonesia (BI) estimates that 87,5% of Indonesian MSMEs are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic while 93,2% of them have their sales negatively impacted.
Meanwhile, according to the data from the Jakarta Provincial Government, 93,4% of the entire business owners in Jakarta are MSME owners which makes them the pillar of the economic sector in Jakarta.
The President of Global Wakaf-ACT Imam Akbari explains, to empower and revive the MSMEs, Global Wakaf and Aksi Cepat Tanggap optimize the effort through the Together Uplift MSMEs movement. In this early stage, Global Wakaf and the Jakarta Provincial Government target 10 thousand MSME owners to be the recipients of the Waqf for Indonesian Micro Businesses program.
On the other hand, Global Wakaf-ACT has been carrying out this rolling scheme for a year, with a total of IDR 4 billion assistance has been distributed to 8,600 MSMEs. Furthermore, 25% of the beneficiaries have returned the capital to be rolled over to other MSME owners.
“One interesting fact is that they become more motivated to provide job opportunities for other people, and last but not least, they are also passionate about being a philanthropist. From this multiplier effect, it means that MSME owners also learn that they are among the fortunate ones to be facilitated. We hope that this spirit of togetherness and cooperation can spread like a virus of goodness and may kill the Covid-19 virus," said Imam at the launching of collaboration for the Together Uplift MSMEs at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (6/14/2021).

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria in his speech at the same event explains that the government is aware that supporting the growth of micro-businesses can be carried out through all sectors, not only from the economic sector.
“If we want to support the growth and development of the MSMEs, apart from economic activities, we can also help through social or religious activities. I thank Global Wakaf-ACT which not only provides capital assistance but also business accompaniment. This is an important thing (for the MSMEs’ growth),” added Riza.
According to Riza, the program to empower MSMEs should be carried out professionally as what has been initiated by the Global Wakaf-ACT. Therefore, it can be a force for economic revival.
“Hopefully, all of us and other elements of the community can take the example from what has been done by the Global Wakaf-ACT," said Riza. On behalf of the Jakarta Provincial Government, he hoped that other humanitarian organizations will continue to help the interests of the country and the world.
