ACTNews, PINRANG – Becoming a Muslim preacher in a remote area, and far from the city center is a challenge for Ustaz Rahmat Zakir. He is a preacher who teaches the Quran to children around his house in Maccinnae Village, Paleteang District, Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi.

Ustaz Rahmat decided to live a simple life in the village and left his desire to find a better life in the city. He becomes a Quran teacher because he wants to serve the community and learn sincerity.

“The Quran teacher in the village is not paid. Children can come to recite the Quran for free. For me, being a Quran teacher is to serve and to learn sincerity,” said Ustaz Rahmat, Friday (8/13/2021).

Rahmat continued many of his friends preferred to move to the city, either looking for work or selling, rather than living in the village as a Quran teacher or a farmer. “Economically, Living in the village is difficult. If you want to run a business, the income is small and rarely sold out. There are no job opportunities other than farming," he said.

Firman from ACT South Sulawesi program team says that becoming a Quran teacher in the village is not easy. It is far from the city, and access is difficult. This situation trials the faithfulness of the preachers who struggle in the way of Allah.

"Ustaz Rahmat is so sincere and firm in his stance as a preacher in remote areas. He relieves his ego and desire to seek a luxurious and comfortable life," he said.

Therefore, to help Ustaz Rahmat's struggle, Global Zakat-ACT provided financial assistance. Another preacher in Pinrang also received financial assistance that day.[]
