– Mount Semeru emitted lahar on Sunday (1/2/2022) afternoon, destroying the
bridge that connects Sumber Langsep Hamlet to Sumber Kajar Hamlet in Jugosari
Village, Candipuro District, Lumajang Regency.
The Commander of
the Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Emergency Response Team, Kusmayadi, explained that
the residents of Sumber Langsep Hamlet are isolated. As of Monday
(3/1/2021) morning, the residents haven’t been able to evacuate.
"There are
approximately 125 families or 405 people in six RTs in Sumber Langsep Hamlet
that are affected," said Kusmayadi, Monday (3/1/2022).
Kusmayadi
continued, the lahar flow was followed by lava avalanches from the crater of
Mount Semeru. The lahar carried pieces of debris that included stone, sand, and bamboo. After
coordinating with the local village government, the ACT emergency response team
evacuated a number of elderly residents in Kamar A Hamlet, Supiturang Village.
The Volcanological
Survey of Indonesia (PVMBG) has confirmed the alert status of Mount Semeru at
level III (alert). Yadi Yuliandi, an observer of Mount Semeru at the Mount
Sawur Volcano Monitoring Post (PGA) observed white smoke from the main crater
that soared for about 100 to 500 meters from the peak, Monday (1/3/2022). []
