ACTNews, JAKARTA — In this digital era with technological development, people can easily do various activities online, starting from eating, traveling, healthcare, and purchasing basic needs. In fact, now, we can also donate waqf online and anytime without necessarily meeting the nazir (waqf manager) directly.

Starting from the current digital growth, aiming to facilitate people performing worship, and maximizing the waqf potential, Global Wakaf-ACT now provides an online platform called Wakaftunai.id that facilitates people to donate waqf by choosing the waqf project themselves and realizing new acts of kindness for the community.

“On Wakaftunai.id, Global Wakaf has prepared various waqf projects. All of these projects will be funded by waqifs (donors) and the results will be returned to the community," explained CEO of Digital Wakaf Corporation, Wahyu Ramdhan Wijanarko at the launch of Wakaftunai.id at Menara 165, South Jakarta, Friday (10/8/2021).

Indonesia has a very big waqf potential. Based on Indonesia Waqf Board (BWI), the cash waqf potential can reach up to IDR 180 trillion per year because Indonesia has the biggest Muslim population in the world. With such a big potential, waqf can be optimized for the benefits of the community such as through productive projects. Unfortunately, waqf literacy in Indonesia is considerately low thus, the large potential of waqf is yet to be optimal.

However, Wahyu added that with Wakaftunai.id, literacy and the waqf potential will be maximized. Moreover, with the support of technology, waqf transactions can be carried out easier while increasing Waqf education and facilitating the spirit of congregational waqf.

Sharia economist Adiwarman Azwar Karim who is also the President Commissioner of Bank Syariah Indonesia said that waqf is a solution to people’s problems especially in the economic field by alleviating people from poverty. Moreover, the large potential of waqf funds can be channeled to the productive sector, so that waqf funds can continue to rotate and its value will not run out. Therefore, the waqf management result will continue to help underprivileged communities in particular.

"The benefits of waqf are so great. This will be jariya alms for waqifs since the value will remain and the results will keep increasing. Waqf is also a form of worship that calming a soul from greed," said Adiwarman at the launch of Wakaftunai.id.

Meanwhile, according to Secretary-General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Amirsyah Tambunan at the launch of Wakaftunai.id, strengthening waqf literacy and socialization is required to improve the people’s and nation’s economy since Indonesia has a great potential of cash waqf that is up to hundreds trillion rupiahs per year while its utilization can be developed for social and humanitarian purposes as well as to drive the people's economy.

“With Wakaftunai.id platform, waqf potential in Indonesia can be more optimized,” he said.

Currently, on Wakaftunai.id page, there are various projects funded by waqf funds such as Waqf Livestock Barns, Waqf Rice Barns, and Lumbung Air Wakaf which results are in the form of food supplies for underprivileged communities. There are also business capital assistance for MSMEs and waqf to support free health services for the community.[]
