World Cleanup Day, MRI Volunteers Clean Rivers in Ambarawa

Volunteers were on duty to clean up two rivers in Tambakboyo Village, Ambarawa District, Semarang Regency.

ACTNews, SEMARANG REGENCY — A number of MRI Semarang Regency volunteers carried out cleaning-up activities to celebrate World Cleanup Day. The volunteers cleaned up two locations in Tambakboyo Village, Ambarawa District, Semarang Regency.

“The first location was in Dusun Katang River and continued to Bugisan River,” said Elvan, Head of MRI Semarang City, Tuesday (9/21/2021).

The activity was held on Sunday (9/20/2021) from 8 a.m to 12 p.m Western Indonesian Time and was attended by other volunteers from various communities including volunteers of MRI Semarang-Salatiga Regency.

Elvan continued, that the trashes around the rivers were collected and put into sacks which then were carried by the Environment Department of Semarang Regency to the landfill.

World Cleanup Day was not only celebrated by cleaning up the rivers but also planting hundreds of tree seeds around the river.

"This activity is expected to raise awareness to the public about the importance of cleaning the earth's surface from waste, especially plastic waste," said Elvan.

World Cleanup Day, which is celebrated every September 19, is a day that is celebrated by cleaning up the environment. This action is simultaneously held in all countries to overcome the world’s waste problem.[]
