ACTNews, LHOKSEUMAWE, NORTH LUWU – Global Zakat - Aksi Cepat Tanggap’s Humanity Food Truck served the Rohingya refugees in Lhokseumawe, Aceh, for a month. From July 2 to August 3, the mobile kitchen produced nearly 14 thousand meal packages to the refugees as well as the locals, volunteers, and officers from various humanitarian and government agencies.
Thirty volunteers were involved in the production of the prepared meal packages. Some of them came all the way from Jakarta to help the Rohingyas stranded in Lhokseumawe.
Every day, tens of kilograms of raw ingredients were cooked into nutritious meal packages. Ryan Andriana Rachman, Coordinator of Humanity Food Truck, said that the distribution of the free meal packages is fully funded by the zakat administered by Global Zakat – ACT. Each food package contains rice, veggies, and meat to make sure that the beneficiaries receive their daily nutritional intake. "The meal packages are distributed for free to the poor and victims of humanitarian conflicts and natural disasters," said Ryan.
To date, Global Zakat - ACT has four units of the Humanity Food Truck. Recently, two of the trucks were deployed to provide food for the Rohingya refugees in Aceh and flood victims in Masamba, North Luwu.
In Masamba, from August 3 to August 20, 7,200 meal packages had been served to the flood victims and the volunteers. The meal packages were produced by a team of chefs from Jakarta, assisted by as many as 111 local volunteers
"To this day, there are still many people in Masamba living in evacuation sites. They are the main targets of the free meal distribution from the Humanity Food Truck. "said Ardian Kurniawan Santoso from the Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) Semarang Regency who drove the truck all the way to Masamba, Saturday (8/22).
The thousands of packages of meal packages from the Humanity Food Truck is only a small fraction of the massive benefit of zakat. Global Zakat - ACT opens opportunities for everyone to donate their zakat-ul-mal once they reach the minimum amount (nisab). Unlike Zakat-ul-Fitr, Zakat-ul-Mal can be paid outside Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr. "We also have the zakat calculator on our website to help zakat donors calculate the amount that must be donated,” said Ryan.
